英语有6种时态：
the present tense - I write / I am writing a letter.
the perfect tense - I have written a letter.
the simple past tense - I wrote a letter./ the imperfect - I was writing a letter.
the pluperfect (the past perfect) - I had written a letter./ I had been writing a letter.
teh future - I will write a letter./ I will be writing a letter.
the future perfect - I will have written a letter./ I will have been writing a letter.
总的来说分三种：现在时（the present）,过去时（the past）,和将来时（the future）.
现在时分为 the present - I write a letter.和 the present continuous - I am writing a letter.
过去时分为 the simple past - I wrote a letter （动词采用这种形式 - preterite).和 the past continuous （也叫做the imperfect) - I was writing the letter.
将来时分为 the future - I will write a letter.和 the future continuous - I will be writing a letter.
将来时可以是 near future (短暂将来)- I am going to write a letter./ I am going to be writing a letter.或遥远将来时 - I will write a letter./ I will be writing a letter.
每一个时态都有自己的“进行时” (continuous / progressive).例如,the past continuous,就叫做 the imperfect.其它的在名字後面加上 continuous 或 progressive,例如 the future continuous - I will be writing a letter.所以细分,英语有十二种时态.
