Be a clever consumer
We need to take care of our planet. People now know this,so we have recycling programme and many people buy goods made from recycled materials.
This is wonderful,but we still have a long way to go. Why do we have so much waste? We used to throw everything away. When we finished using something (cans,bottles,newspapers,etc.),we put it into the rubbish bin. However,now we often try to bring it to a recycling centre.
Take a look at the following figures:In 2009,our city produced 136,380 tonnes of waste,an increase of 1.2% compared with 2008.
Of this, household waste was No.1,which made up 120,000 tonnes---8% more than last year.
Plastics accounted for 8%--9% of the total waste,glass 3%--5% and paper 2%--3%.
Why are these numbers going up instead of down,even though people are recycling? Some scientists say the problem is in the packaging of products. If we use less packaging,and reuse things ,there will be less waste. If you buy something in a plastic can be recycled. You should buy products with ' Earth-friendly ' packaging. We must think before we buy. If we do this,and then try to recycle our rubbish,we can keep our Earth green and beautiful.
