The price of gold has been influenced by continued inflation.
The price of gold has been influenced because people have lost faith in the dollar.
或者把两个句子用 and 连接成平行结构的并列句,即“主谓结构 + 原因状语”,也是正确的：
The price of gold has been influenced by continued inflation and it has been influenced because people have lost faith in the dollar.
但是本句却把by表示原因的介词短语和because 引导的原因状语从句并列,显然不是平行结构.要使其成为平行结构,可以有如下的两种改法：
… by continued inflation and because of people’s having lost faith in the dollar 【“by + 名词”和“because of + 动名词的复合结构”都是介词短语,属于平行构成】
…by continued inflation and by lost of faith in the dollar 【两个平行的by 短语,】
第二种情况中,后一个by 与上文重复,可以省略,变成by continued inflation and lost of faith.答案所说的括号中部分需要改成 "loss of faith" 就是这个道理.
