The rise of feminist literary criticism in the mid 20th century opened a new horizon in interpreting Shakespeare’s tragedies. Feminism provided a new perspective in analyzing the women in Shakespeare’s tragedies. Whereas those gentle, virtuous and noble ladies were created within a masculine world, the cruel and powerful ones were also aggressors to confront the world dominated by men. This article aims at exploring women’s fragile status and the suppression from the domination of men while revealing the revolting spirit of various female roles appeared in his tragedies where “angel” and ‘temptress” demonstrated their respective acts of rebel.
