I have a dog called Wonder.Why is he called this?Well,it is simply because he is wonderful.He likes to follow me around everywhere I go.He is more than just a pet — he is like a good friend.However,people are often scared of him because he is big and looks ferocious.They are frightened to go near him,but actually he is very friendly and loves to play.
Of course,not everyone in Hong Kong has room to keep a big dog.This is why a lot of people only have small dogs or cats.Some people own even smaller pets,such as hamsters or birds.There are also other people who prefer pets that are very strange.For example,my friend Jack has a pet snake which he keeps in a glass box in his bedroom.He spends a lot of time looking after the snake.For instance,he has to check that it is not too hot or too cold.He also has to feed it live mice!Yuck!
However,this is not the strangest pet I have ever heard of.In Australia,some people keep cockroaches as pets.The most popular type of pet cockroach is called the Rhinoceros cockroach,which is the biggest cockroach in the world.It can grow to the size of the palm of your hand!Pet shops that sell these big bugs say that people buy them because they make ideal pets.They are small and easy to care for,and even make cute noises when you touch them.
Well,that may be true but I do not think a cockroach will meet you at the door when you come home or be much fun to take for a walk!
