Today,investors—even those with only a small amount of capital—can easily plug directly into worldwide exchanges; buy and sell stock and other products; and find free news,quotes,charts,and other relevant information.Con artists,too,have the same access.It is essential today that everyone treats the information available online with caution and a healthy degree of skepticism.A good rule of thumb:Don’t depend on “pushed information.” You should ideally go to the source and generate information in response to questions you ask,with those answers derived from authoritative and legiti-mate online sources.If you depend on what you hear in investment chat rooms (where you have no idea who is there or what their motives are),you will not be able to rely on the information you gain.The only way to ensure that your data is of high quality,dependable,and based on research and valid secondary sources is to rely on companies with the resources you need.It is therefore worthwhile identifying who the accredited data providers,brokers,and ex-changes are for each of the markets in which you are interested.If you plan to perform research based on yesterday’s investment culture,you are already out of date.The blunt reality shows that,realistically,you can no longer rely on the research departments of older,established sources that are unable to adapt quickly enough to an increasingly fast moving and global market.Equally,while useful as a first reference tool,and for slightly delayed indicative market information,the typical Internet search engine or news tool is not a good source for research data.
