在吉首市乾州,从人民路往南行,在大约距吉首城区7公里处的东南方向,有一所历史悠久的中学,它就是湘西人民引以为豪的省重点学校,我亲爱的母校--湘西自治州民族中学,它是孕育了无数人才的摇篮. 学校的建筑面积达160多亩,建于1836年,目前正在大规模地扩建中. 学校的大门是精心设计的现代化建筑,别具特色,走进校门,首先映入眼帘的是一片宽敞的平地,由别致小巧的白色、粉红色小瓷砖铺垫而成,它是同学们的一处活动场,左侧有一个小小报刊亭,供同学们随心所欲地选择课内外书籍.平地的正前方是一个小花坛,呈半圆形,精雕细琢的花坛围栏是一道美丽的风景线,另外,多座名人的雕像整齐地排列在花坛里,庄严肃穆,有伟大的科学家爱因斯坦,有学识渊博的教育家孔子等.他们是我们的榜样,激励我们学习. 穿过平地向左拐是运动场的正门,这是一个多功能的椭圆形运动场,400米跑道环绕着宽阔的足球场,绿茵茵的草皮受学校的特殊管理,男同学们在球场上大显身手,一派欣欣向荣的景象,运动会等大型活动都在这里举行. 站在运动场的中央,按平面图方向,抬头向西望去,两幢楼房伫立在多级台阶以上,这里是学校的灵魂中心--教学大楼,左边的一幢共有5层,右边的共有8层,教室的分布按照年级化分,便于管理,教室高约3米,宽约6米,长为11米,明亮的玻璃窗,崭新的桌椅,给我们营造了良好的学习环境. 向东望去是高六层的逸夫科技大楼,这里有生物实验室、物理实验室以及高科技技术的多媒体教室、计算机房,大家都认真的完成每一次任务. 科技楼的后面,是美名为桂花园的小园子,桂子花开,十里飘香在这儿体现地淋漓尽致,高大的树木,青青的绿草,再配上典雅的石桌石凳,好一幅优美的图画,幽静的环境吸引很多同学来此晨读等,在树丛茂密处是艺术人类的天地,钢琴、古筝、吉它……这儿应有尽有,美妙的乐声传遍整个桂花园. 学生宿舍紧挨着桂花园,一共有七栋,结构各有不同,女生宿舍的右边是通往食堂的小路,有我们自己的诗墙,很有文学气息；还有几块小草坪,由鹅卵石铺成的小道穿插在其中,罗盛教塑像挺立在正中央,我们将永远记住这位 伟大的战士…… 草坪的正前方是新修建而成的食堂,大楼共三层,头两层是学生食堂,第三层则是供老师使用的,设施等还算完善. 当然,以上只介绍了学校的一部分,却足以体现学校的合理布置,我相信在这片土地上会诞生更多的栋梁之才.
