是06年12月新六级阅读理解（PART 4-Section A）的第48题：
I’ve heard from and talked to many people who described how Mother
Nature simplified their lives for them.………
“The fire saved us the agony of deciding what to keep and what to get
rid of,” one woman wrote.And once all those things were no longer there,she and her husband saw how they had weighed them down and complicate
their lives.
48.Now that all their possessions were lost in
the fire,the woman and her husband felt that their lives had been ________.
市面上的图书都填的是simplified.但答案解析一般都大致这样翻译原文的定位点：“一旦这些东西失去了之后,她和丈夫意识到这些东西曾经使他们背上很重的担子,使他们的生活变得复杂.”但在题目中,很明显宾语从句用的也是过去完成时,那这个句子要表达的意思也应当是：“她和丈夫觉得他们的生活曾经是……的.”怎么看都应该填complicated.如果要填simplified,这里时态应该保持与主句一致,即had been 应改为were.
我不是很理解,到底是我想错了还是街上那些书编错了!

由于大火夺去了他们的财物,后半句的结果怎么可能是他们的生活被complicated了呢?had been可以呀,他们的生活变得简单了,已经完成了
再问： 我没有说后半句的结果是生活被complicated了。。。 这个题目的定位是在最后一句话的吧？ 题干felt...had been跟原文的saw...had根本就是同意转换来的啊！从句的时态往前推了，它怎么着都不会是事后的结果。“在这事儿之后，他们觉得他们的生活被简化了”，“觉得”与“被简化”应该是一样的时态。 就好比，你现在说I knew it ! 意思是“我（过去）就知道！”这是英语的时态在翻译中的点哎？！
再答： 对，如果都用过去时就不会让人困惑了！而且个人认为可以都用过去时的。
