英语作文(最喜欢的城市)最好是巴黎
Known as Lutetia (Lutece) in ancient times, Paris was conquered by Julius Caesar in 52 BC, and existed as a regional center under the Romans and in the early Middle Ages. In 987, HUGH CAPET, Count of Paris, became king of France, and under his successors, the CAPETIANS, the city's position as the nation's capital became established. Often characterized as spirited and rebellious, the people of Paris first declared themselves an independent commune under the leadership of Etienne Marcel in 1355-58. The storming of the Bastille in 1789 was the first of a series of key actions by the Parisian people during the FRENCH REVOLUTION. Paris also played a major role in the revolutions of 1830 and 1848. In 1871, during the FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR , the city was besieged for four months until France surrendered. After German troops withdrew, French radicals briefly established the COMMUNE OF PARIS. During World War I the Germans were prevented from reaching Paris, but they occupied the city during World War II from 1940 to 1944.
Through the Luxembourg Gardens, where Sunday brought out packs of Parisians, some with little boats for the pond; past the Rodin Museum (no museums today) and under the Eiffel Tower (If you’ve never been to the top, do it); across the Seine to the Arc de Triomphe from Napoleon’s time; along the Champs-Elysees, the backbone of Paris with its shops, outdoor restaurants and people-watching; through the Tuileries Garden and past the Louvre; across the Pont Neuf to Sainte-Chapelle and Notre-Dame Cathedral; through the streets of Ile St. Louis; back across the Seine to the Pantheon, a favorite of mine because it houses the body of Victor Hugo and honors France’s best minds.
River Seine
Filled with 2,000 years of history, architecture, charm, and beauty, the magnificent city of Paris lies along the banks of the River Seine, with a series of more than 30 bridges connecting the city around the river. Graceful stone structures, these bridges – or ponts, arch across the curving river and provide accent pieces for the tapestry of a beautifully-woven city. Most of the ponts are adorned with sculptures – each pont is named and is almost a work of art in itself. They often contain an inscription that offers visitors a glimpse into the past.
