contrary to common belief -----这是插入语,可以省略,这样以来,Imagination grows by exercise 与 is more powerful in the mature than in the young就成了 一个主语 + 两个谓语：
imagination grows - - -AND is - - - - -.明白了吗?
再问： 既然是插入语， 可以省略的， 那为什么还要加入这句话呢？能给我举个同样的例子吗。 谢谢
