Not all books should be read in the same way.The famous English philosopher Bacon once said,Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.It means that for some books we should just skim through and get the genaral ideas,for some books we should read them more carefully and learn from them,and for few books we should read them with diligence and attention.Those are the books that contain epochmaking theories and deep philosophical ideas.They are usually hard to understand but very inspiring,and can broaden our horizons and deepen our thoughts.
Personally I think Bacon’s idea has a good deal of truth in it,and really capture the essence when it comes to study.And I basiclly apply it as a general rule in my life.For example,sometimes I read fashion magazines and entertainment journals,I just browse them quickly to catch up on the news.In other cases,I read books with more attention,I was once attracted by the novel Harry Porter and red the whole series,and I enjoying reading them a lot.For classic masterpieces,I usually read them thoroughly for several times,make notes,put great effort to understand the ideas the books try to express,then I discuss with my friends and think about them more deeply and further.In this way,I can improve my thinking ability and fully appreciate the beauty of the classics.
