Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
I.Preamble and Proposal:
The intent of this Memorandum of understanding is to initiate a long-term collaborative program between the University of Minnesota (UM),located in St.Paul,Minnesota,USA and the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT),located in San Miguel de Tucumán,Tucumán,Argentina.
The purpose of this MOU is to provide an umbrella agreement between UM's College of Agricultural,Food,and Environmental Sciences (COAFES) and UNT's Facultad de Agronomia y Zootecnia (FAZ) for faculty and student exchanges,exchanges of scientific data and information,collaborative research,and extension and research activities.
II.Introduction:
UNT is a comprehensive university that ranks among the top 3 universities in Argentina with more than 40,000 students.The FAZ has 250 faculty and 1500 students and has been,and continues to be the primary institution to educate professionals in agronomy and animal sciences in Northwest Argentina.The FAZ awards degrees to both Agricultural and Livestock Engineers.Other missions of FAZ include postgraduate degrees and focus on three courses of postgraduate study at the Masters and Doctoral levels:Development of Arid and Semiarid Zones; Agrarian Sciences,orientation in Sustainable Production and Biological Sciences.The FAZ also does research and its transfer as extension programs to the society.The FAZ needs the contribution of experiences from other universities to improve its quality of curricula for the education and training of teachers and students.
UM is a comprehensive university that ranks among the top 20 research universities in the United States.It is both a land-grant university with a strong tradition of education and public service,and a major research institution with scholars of national and international reputation.The College of Agricultural,Food,and Environmental Sciences (COAFES) consistently ranks among the top five agricultural science programs nationally.It consists of 10 major academic departments,six research and outreach centers,an office of international agricultural programs,and a landscape arboretum.The UM needs professional interaction and experience with Argentinean counterparts to improve its quality of curricula for the education and training of faculty and students.
III.Specific Objectives of MOU:
A.To contribute to professional development and training of both faculty and students.
B.To develop formal educational exchange agreements for faculty and students.
C.To plan and implement long and short-term training programs in the following,but not necessarily limited to,areas of:soil and water management; biotechnology; horticulture; animal science; crop and animal management and waste management.
