My name is _____,I am a volunteer guide of EXPO 2010.I would like to introduce Huangdaopo Memorial Hall which is a famous site in our town.
In honor of Huang Daopo,the outstanding innovator of textile techinque,this memorial hall was about 300 square meters with three small halls inside.The pictures,information and some tools demonstrated in the memorial hall show her life as well as the achievements she had made.
Huang Daopo was born approximately in 1245.Once wandering about on the island of Hainan,she learned earnestly from local Li ethnic women the technology of cotton textile.After returning home,she committed herself to revolutionizing the backward textile production tools in her hometown.She summarized and came up with a set of fairly advanced textile technology and taught people the technology enthusiastically.Very soon the area of Songjiang developed into the country 's cotton textile center,which flourished for several hundred years.In the beginning of the 16th century,local peasants could weave tens of thousands of pieces of cloth in a single day.In the 18th and 19th centuries,Songjiang's cloth sold far into the American and European markets,with a very high reputation.
Huang Daopo's brilliant contributions to the development of Chinese traditional handcraft cotton textile production,which include the creation of cotton gin and pedal spinning machine - HuangDaopo's Spinning Wheel,the development in techniques and yarn-dyed fabrics and Jacquard weaves,and the promotion of commodity prodution of traditional handcraft cotton textiles in the area of Songjiang Prefecture.
