I was fifteen months old,a happy kid until the day Ifell.It was a bad fall.I landed on a glass rabbit which cut my eye badlyenough to make it blind.Trying to save the eye,the doctors stitched theeyeball together where it was cut,leaving a big ugly scar in the middle ofmy eye.The attempt failed,but my mother,in all of her wisdom,found anotherdoctor who knew that if the eye were removed entirely,my face would grow upbadly distorted,so my scarred,sightless,cloudy and gray eye lived on withme.As I grew,this sightless eye in so many ways affected me.I walked with my face looking at thefloor so that people would not see the ugly me.Yet my mother would say to me,atevery turn,“Hold your head up high and face the world.If you hold your head uphigh,it will be OK,and people will see your beautiful soul.” She continued thismessage whenever I was trying to hide.Mama’s words were of great help forme to face the world bravely.As a teenager,even though I tended to look downto hide my shame,I found that sometime when I held my head up high and letpeople know me,they liked me.In high school,I was successful bothacademically  and socially.I was evenelected class president.My mother’s words helped me begin to realize that byletting people look at my face,I let them recognize the intelligence and beautybehind both eyes,even if they couldn’t see it on the surface.Now I’m a happy wife and great mother.The message“Hold your head up high” has been heard many times in my sweet home.Each of mychildren has felt its invitation,and the gift my mother gave me has lived onin another generation.

我是一个十五个月的孩子,在我摔跟头这前,我一直是快乐的孩子.跟头摔得厉害,我摔在了一只玻璃做的兔子上,它弄伤了我的眼睛,以至于快要瞎了,为了挽救我的眼睛,医生把我的眼球和受伤的部位缝合在一起,在我的眼睛中间留下了一个大大的丑陋的伤痕.手术不怎么成功,我的母亲,用了她所有的智慧,给我找了另一个医生,医生认为,如果把眼睛完好地挪回到原处,我的脸以后也不会很难看,所以我的有伤痕的弱视的灰色的眼睛就一直跟着我.
长大后,弱视的眼睛多次地伤害了我.走路的时候我几乎把脸贴在了地上以至于人们往往看不到那个丑陋的我.但是妈妈很有把握地说:"抬头看着这个世界,如果你抬头了,人们会看到你那美丽的内心.”每当我想把自己藏起来的时候,她总是传递给我这样的信息.妈妈的话给了我很大的帮助,让我去勇敢地面对这个世界.作为一个青年人,虽然我还是会低着头隐藏我的羞愧,但是我发现每当我抬头让人们了解我的时候,他们总会喜欢上我.在高中时,我在学业和社会交际方面都做得很好.我甚至被选为我们年级的代表.妈妈的话帮助了我,我开始认识到只有让人们看着我的脸,我才能让他们看到隐藏在我眼睛后面的智慧和美丽,尽管他们并不能从我的外表上看到这一切.现在我是一个快乐的主妈,一个伟大的母亲,“高高地抬起你的头”这句话在我那甜蜜的家里已经听过很多遍了,我的每一个孩子都能感受到它的存在,妈妈给我的这一分礼物将传递给我的下一代.
