1.请问这里的as they were told 是定语从句还是状语从句?如果是状语从句,是方式状语从句还是什么从句?2.如果是状语从句as they were told 为什么成分不完整,少了一个直接宾语啊,是省略掉了?

the doctor say（sth.）they were told （sth.）
as指代的就是they were told后面的内容 they were told sth.（they did sth.）
