As a scarce non-renewable resource, oil is one of the most
important product factors in modern industrial economy,
particularly in China which is now in the latter period of
urbanization and industrialization development.By the end of
2008,China’s oil demand has already overtaken Japan,
becoming the world’s second largest oil demand country.
Therefore oil price fluctuation will have a significant influence
on China’s economic development in the future. Many scholars
have found that oil price rise will bring GDP growth down,
inflation up,unemployment rate up and other negative
economic consequences on economic growth [1,2].The
experiences of western developed countries show that in
history several major oil crises are directly accompanied by
world economic depression; after World War II nine out of ten
economic depressions in United States occurred after sharply
rising oil price [3,4].However,in recent years it seemed that
the negative relationship has changed.From 1999 Q1 to 2008
Q2,oil price has continued to surge,in June 1999 the real price
is 17 U.S.dollars / barrel and in June 2008 up to 104 U.S.
dollars / barrel,an increase of up to 6.12 times. On the
contrary,China’s macroeconomic situation has not been
dampened by high oil price; it even maintained a sound
economic growth rate. That is to say that after 1999 oil price
rise and rapid economic growth goes hand in hand, which is
contrary to the traditional point of view “oil prices increase will
significantly restrain economic growth”.This special dynamic
changing relationship has attracted some scholars’ attention
and the causes of it have become an urgent energy research
area.
