Pronouncing a language is a skill.Every normal person is expert in the skill of pronouncing his own language; but few people are even reasonably proficient at pronouncing foreign languages.Now there are many reasons for this.But I suggest that the fundamental reason why people in.general do not speak foreign languages very much better than they do is that they fail to grasp the true nature of the problem of learning to pronounce,and consequently never set about undertaking it in the right way.Far too many people fail to realize that pronouncing a foreign language is a skill---one that needs careful training of a special kind,and one that cannot be acquired by just leaving it to take care of itself.I think even teachers of language,while recognizing the importance of a good accent,tend to ignore the branch of study concerned with speaking the language in their practical teaching.So English pronunciation must be taught; the teacher sbould be prepared to devote some of the lesson time to this and get the student to feel that here is a matter worthy of receiving his close attention.
It is important that the teacher should be in possession of the necessary information.This can generally be obtained from books.It is possible to get from books some idea of the mechanics of speech.And of what we call general phonetic theory.But it does not follow that you can teach pronunciation successfully as soon as you have read the necessary books.It depends after that what use you make of your knowledge; and this is a matter of technique.

发音是一门学问.每个正常人都是自己母语的发音专家；然而没几个人能在讲外语时有一样的发音水平.目前,有很多原因导致这个问题.但是我觉得大体上来说,人之所以外语没有母语的发音标准都是因为他们没有得到学习发音的真谛,当然也就无法用正确的方法发音.到目前为止,还是有很多人没意识到发音是一门技巧——它需要一个人经过特殊的认真的训练,并且放任不管是根本学不到什么的.我想,即便是语言老师,虽然他们也意识到良好口音的重要性,但往往也会在实际教学中忽视语言的说,这是学习的一个分支.所以英语的发音必须有人来教；老师应当准备牺牲一些上课时间来做这项工作,并且让学生们觉得这绝对值得吸引他们的注意力.
老师必须有一定的信息量,这点十分重要.这些信息大概可以从书上获得.从书上得到一些关于讲话和所谓一般发音理论的技巧,是很有可能的.但是,这样也不一定能保证你在阅读了必要的书籍之后可以成功地教授发音.这在你应用了你的所学后视情况而定；并且这也是方法问题.
