随着经济的发展,汽车价格的下降,人们购车数量的逐年增加,城市中各街道、商场、宾馆、饭店周围车满为患.现今我国各大城市停车能力还不足5%,一般水平应为15－50%较理想.车辆增多与可供停车面积少的矛盾日益突出,因而平面停车场向立体停车场发展就显得更为重要了.开发立体停车库系统,有利于城市改造建设,充分利用土地资源,促进汽车工业发展,也有利于促进我国其它工业发展,推动城市改造的进程,经济效益和社会效益显著.
自动化立体停车设备可设在面积较小处向上部或下部空间（地下）延伸,也可设在屋顶.其类型有巷道堆垛式、垂直升降（电梯）式、水平移动式、垂直循环式、升降横移式等,可根据具体情况进行选择设计.下面以升降横移式为例,对自动化立体停车设备结构、控制原理及安全措施进行论述.
本设计重点内容包括在升降和横移传动系统设计方案的确定.
外框架的结构设计,材料的选择,以及强度校核.
停车库的控制系统也是本设计重点.
