My husband and I stayed at this hotel in the beginning of June. The rooms were very large by European standards. The bathroom was well sized as well. In terms of the location, we wanted to be near Kildare Street, and it was about a 10 to 15 minute walk to there or Trinity College from the hotel. However, it was a very nice walk through St. Stephen's Green. The staff at the bar were incredibly friendly. One bartender, who was Irish and had lived in the US, was extremely pleasant and chatted with us at length.
I would definitely stay here again, and they have a lot of deals right now which make it worth the money (we stayed in a queen room). However, I have listed the hotel as average for the following reasons. Our flight got in at 6am, and we were exhausted. We went to the hotel and asked if it would be possible to check in early, and we even offered to pay for an additional night if need be. The man at the desk did accommodate us. However, there was some confusion because he was giving us a smaller room, and I wanted to make sure that we could switch to the larger size room that we had paid for later. He seemed very irritated when I was double checking, and since English was not his first language I am guessing that he misunderstood my questioning for being pushy. That said, he knew we had just got off a plane from the US and were extremely tired. He could have been a little bit more polite and patient with me.
Secondly, along the same lines, most of the staff were not Irish. About 95% of the people we dealt with were Eastern European. And, normally this would not matter to me, except that they had absolutely no idea about where they were geographically. I asked for directions to the National Archives which was very close to the hotel. They had no idea where it was, even when I provided a street address. It might behoove the managers of the hotel to have their staff explore the surrounding area a bit so that they are able to answer simple questions like this.
Finally, the internet access was not free and was pretty pricey. While we did encounter this in other places in Europe, it was not $$$ in all places that we traveled to. I think it would be a much better practice to provide free internet rather than gouge people for this service.
I will say that after staying at this hotel and the Davenport, while the Davenport had a closer location to Trinity, they did try to charge us for things we did not buy. Therefore if I had to pick between the two, I would pick this one.
