oil product application
Each individual product of the oil industry ,whether it be the output of a single process plant or a blend of components produced by several different processes,is required by the customer to perform a defined function ,e.g. as a fuel ,lubricant,adhesive,constuction material,waterproofing agent ,corrosion protective, electrical insulant,etc. In order to perform satisfactorily in service,each product requires certain characteristics which can be quantitatively described. For examply,it may need to be sufficiently fluid between minus 10C and plus 35C to be pumpable .That characteristic then has to be translated into one or more test measurements.In this examply an upper limit of viscosity at a defined temperature might ensure fluidity under cold conditions,and a vapour pressure measurement might ensure that flow would not stop through vapout lock at high operating temperatures. A combination of all the technical requirements of an application provides the basis on which a fuel can be described or specified in terms of standard test methods.
