It was midnight.Mrs Wilson was lying in bed,still awake.She stood up and looked out of the window.She saw a man in the garden.He was trying to open the window of Bob Smith’s bedroom in the house next door.Mrs Wilson quickly went into the kitchen and took a stick.She ran into the garden and hit the man on his head.The man fell down.Then she went to knock at Mr Smith’s door.Mr Smith was Bob’s father.
“Mr Smith!Wake up!Mr Smith!”
“Who is it?” asked Mr Smith in a sleepy voice.
“It’s me,Mrs Wilson.”
“What’s the matter,Mrs Wilson?” He opened the door and saw Mrs Wilson standing outside with a stick in her hand.
“I saw a man in your garden just now.”
“A man?What was he doing?” asked Mr Smith in surprise.
“He was trying to open the window of Bob’s room.”
“Really?Then what happened?”
“I hit him on the head with the stick,” answered Mrs Wilson proudly.
“You are so brave,Mrs Wilson!Oh,look!Here’s Bob.”
“Oooh,my head!” Bob came with his hands on his head.
“What’s wrong with you,Bob?” asked Mr Smith.
“ My head.It hurts.Someone hit me when I was trying to open the window of my room,” said Bob.
“Oh,dear!But why did you try to open the window?” asked his father.
“I left my key in my room,and I didn’t want to wake you up.”
Mrs Wilson stood there.She did not know what to say.
