Sarah Matthews is a child protection case worker at the Department of Community Services in NSW.She wants to talk anonymously about her experiences on the front line.Sarah says the systems at DOCS are failing.
SARAH MATTHEWS:We can have years of reports on a family before we actually get around to more investigative action.You can have,you know,10,15 reports on one family and often people ask us,"Why weren't you here earlier?" and,you know,all you can do is apologise because you got there as soon as you can humanly do so.And we're still not even scratching the surface.
Sarah wants to take on some of the cases which are long waiting lists but can't because she's already stretched to capacity.
SARAH MATTHEWS:I mean,you're never on top of things,you can just never get there.
