(1) the process of silk-shafting: the maker sits on the base of shafts, uses his right elbow and right knee to hold against the ram's-horn-shaped holder and makes it rotate slowly, rolls the silk cloth outside the shaft, tightens the cloth with both hands when it's moving, gets water at times from bottles placed on the holder of the base and sprays onto the cloth evenly. After silk-shafting, the silk cloth will be with the feeling of smooth and quality, as the pleats of which left from the pretreatment and dyeing process have been removed already.
(2) shaft-stamping(also called as "Ya Guang"): to roll up the silk outside the shaft, put the shaft onto the concave but smooth holding-stone while putting the stamping-stone(traditionally called as shoe-shaped stone ingot), and let the stampingman stands on the both sides of the shoe-shaped stone ingot with both hands holding the bamboo stick for support, both Feet shaking the stone ingot to rolling and stamping the silk over and over.
As the stone ingot is over seven hundreds Jin(about 350kgs) and the holding-stone is upto eight hundreds Jin(about 400kgs) already, by adding the maker's weight, the silk texture becomes very tighten and shiny. Feine Seide(a kind of Silk cloth) originated from Sheng Ze are all shiny and smooth after silk-stamping process.
