If you “get up the nerve” to do something,it means that you are nervous about doing something but find the courage to do it.
意思是鼓起勇气或提心吊胆的做事.
例句:
1.I don’t know,I’m really shy.It’s really hard for me to get up the nerve to ask someone for help.
我不知道,我非常害羞.对我来说很难鼓起勇气向别人求助.

To “take someone’s word” is to trust what they say to you.This is often used when you don’t have any other way of getting information so the only thing you can do is to trust what one person tells you.

To “give someone grief” is to another way of saying to “give someone a hard time”.This means that you ask them difficult questions,or get angry with them for something that they’ve done.
意思是让某人伤心;为难或刁难某人.

When I was a teenager,I know that I gave my mom a lot of grief.
