At the 2013 World Aquatics Championships, Sun Yang impressive medal haul of three gold and one bronze saw him cement his name as one of the greatest long distance swimmers in history. What made his brilliant performance all the more impressive was the rough year he's had in training in the wake of his London glory, as well as recent disputes with his coach.
On the first day of competition, Sun Yang won gold in the 400m freestyle and the next day, retained his world title in the 800m freestyle, winning China's 100th gold medal in the World Aquatics Championships history.Sun Yang capped off his World Championships with a third gold in the 1500m.
However, my deepest impression of Sun Yang was when he cried during his interview after winning his first gold medal. Behind those tears were the strong determination, hard work and mountainous pressure that Sun Yang had to cope with over the past year, and his achievements have indeed made everyone proud.
