从前,有一个老人以低价买下一块长满野草无人问津的荒地.
老人每天早上六点就开始工作：除草、松土、下种、浇水、施肥、捕虫.每天都忙到太阳下山后才收工回家,真正是“日出而作,日落而息”.在老人辛苦地工作半年后,这片原是无人要的荒地已经长满了鲜艳夺目的花树.
在开花的日子,花园里蝴蝶翻飞,蜜蜂嗡嗡嘤嘤,别有一番动人的妩媚.那若有若无、若远若近的芳馨,更叫人沉醉.这吸引了无数的人们,大家都赞不绝口.有一个人忍不住上前对老人说：“老伯,你的花园真美,我非常羡慕,看来上帝真的很照顾你啊!”老人笑着问答说：“先生,也许上帝真的很照顾我,但你是否知道,这位老人每天早上六点就开始努力地工作,一直到傍晚才收工呢?”
