Senses of ability include to feel, to taste, to sound, to look, to smell. They are all link verbs, intransitive.
"too...to..." structure means sth. is so ... that people cannot accept it or accepted by the commons. Maybe the hot coffee is just like the sour apricot unfit for anyone in a summer lunch. So far as I know some pregannent women in China enjoy such sour plums very much but they do not how to release themselves very often.
Language is a practical tool but food can be poisonous sometimes. A necessary greeting is sometimes more important than a piece of cake.
