The expression "Excuse me" is more often used in United States than in China. An American says" Excuse me" when he wants to pass in front of someone, to leave a party or a dinner or when he finds himself late for an appointment. "Thank you" means to appreciate what someone has done for you. An American says"Thank you" all day long. For example, he will say"Thank you" to the cashier when he had paid for his food. He will say"Thank you" to a student if he has just answered the question. At home the husband will thank his wife if she brings him a cup of tea. On the other hand, the wife thanks her husband for helping her with her housework. So the American people's idea of being polite is quite different from ours.
One day a young man was on his way to town to sell his caps. He felt very tired after walking in the sun for some time. So he stopped under a big tree, put his caps down, took one of them and put it on his head. Then he sat down to sleep.
When the man work up, he could not find his caps. "Where are my caps?" he cried and looked up. And what did he see? He saw many monkeys in the trees, and each had a cap on its head. "Give bank my cap!" the man cried. But the monkeys did not understand him. They only laughed and played. The man got so angry that he took off his own cap and threw it away while crying, "If you want all my caps,you may take this cap,too."
And what happened? The monkeys did the same. Each monkey took off its cap and threw it onto the ground. The man was very happy. He quickly picked up his caps and went on his way.
