This letter was written by Wang Sa,a Grade 8 student from Shaoxing County Experimental Middle School in Zhejiang.With it,the 13-year-old beat 2 million kids from around the world and won a gold medal in the 40th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People in August.On October 9,Wang received the award in Beijing.
The letter-writing competition is organized by the UN and the Universal Postal Union every year.In keeping with the International Year of Forests 2011,this year kids were asked to imagine themselves as a tree.
Wang got the information about the competition from her uncle,a middle school teacher,earlier this year.She finished the letter with over 1,000 characters in just one hour.
“What inspired (给予灵感) me is my childhood in my grandma’s village,” said Wang.“I remember how fresh the air and how clean the water was then.
“But when I grew up and came back,I found everything was changed.I saw smelly rubbish.The streets are busy and packed with cars.”
That is why Wang tries to make her life “green”.She sorts (分类) trash,recycles (循环利用) paper and learns water-saving tips.
