Tracy,Rick and Elsa wanted to give Mr．Levi a special gift for his birthday.They counted their money．They had only two dollars in all．“I think he might like a handmade gift,”Tracy said．The three of them tried to think of something they could make that would not cost too much．
After a while,Rick said,“I’ve got it! In school last year,we made salt jars．We filled jars with green,blue,orange,and white salt to make a picture.All we would need to buy would be salt and colored chalk(粉笔)．”Tracy and Elsa agreed that Rick’s idea was good．
All the things had been gathered．Then Rick poured some salt on a paper towel(纸巾)．He rubbed(摩擦) a piece of blue chalk over the salt. As he rubbed and rubbed,the salt turned darker and darker blue. Rick put the blue salt in a bowl．Next he made some orange salt. Finally Rick made some of the salt green．
The children began pouring the different colors of salt into their jars．They worked on making designs with the salt.Each jar was filled to the top．Then Tracy,Rick and Elsa put the lids on them．
Elsa's jar looked like an orange desert with trees．Rick made a colorful rainbow．Tracy formed snow-covered mountains with a blue sky．
