The Dragon Boat Festival is one of important and ancient festivals in china. It is on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month
of the Chinese Lunar calendar every year. The Dragon Boat Festival originated from the War Period of China and it
has a history of more than 2000 years.
As to the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, there are many different viewpoints.But in all of stories of the Dragon
Boat Festival, the one about memory Quyuan is most famous. Qu Yuan is a famous Chinese patriot and great poet,
who was born in 343 BC, and who jumped into the Miluo River and passed away.
After Quyuan suicided, the local people were very sorrowful, and they memorized him by many ways, which became
many different customs afterward in China. The most famous customs are the racing dragon boats, wrapping
Zongzi, and hanging customary on the door. From then on, it has become a tradition for Chinese people to hold
boat races and make Zongzi, a kind of rice dumplings.
Now in my opinion the Dragon Festival not only is in memory of Quyuan but also spreads the culture of China and promotes the
friendship between Chinese people and the other counties’ people over the world.
