The reading passage focuses on the reasons why the Portrait of an
Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet should not be attributed to the
Dutch painter Rembrandt.However,the professor contradicts the
reasons completely.
The reading suggests that there are three main problems about the
attribution of the portrait to Rembrandt.First,the dress of the woman
in the portrait is inconsistent,with a white cap,a symbol of a servant,
and the luxious fur callor.Second,the light and shadow is erroneous as
well,since the collar should not reflect light on the face.Finally,the
painting panel is composed of several pieces of wood glued together,
which is also not a Rembrandt-way.
In the listening,the professor believes that the Portrait of an Elderly
Woman in a White Bonnet is a work of Rembrandt.According to the
professor,the tests on the painting by the reaserchers confirmed that it
was originated by him,but someone made additional painting,
including the addition of the fur collar,in order to elevate its value.In
fact,the original painting was correct in light and shadow,because the
woman was wearing a light cloth.Finaly,about the panel,the professor
points out that the original one was made on a single wood.The
additional woods are actually for the purpose of making it more grand
and valuable.
