in contemporary society,the english language is prevalent in the international political,economic and cultural scenes.the dominance of english has generated a heated debate.english has the potential to bring us many advantages.first of all,as an universal language,english enhances cross-cultural communication.today most international conferences adopt english as their cheif working language.secondly,the extensive use of english has a unifying effect on people who do not speak the same mother language.
having said these however english do not come without downsides.to begin with ,it renders a host of indigenous language obsolete.furthermore,the invasions of english erode the cultural identity of other races.in conclusion,we should sustain the wide use of english while at the same time do our best to honor and persevere other languages and cultures.
