Although college students are the ones who have been well educated, it is very difficult for undergraduate students, especially students in China, to apply for a job. It is ironically, but it is a widely accepted truth.
The most important factor is that whether the colleges students have actually understand the academic theories and hold the practical skills is doubt by most employers. Many companies exhibit their disappointment about students’ unawareness and unsophisticated exposed in the interview: some of them are not familiar with their major, and some of them even do not want to sacrifice for a good salary. It is admittedly that for the majority of college students who are not given many chances to experiment, the acquainting of practical skills are, to some extent, inapproachable.
Also, being the only child of a family, many students nowadays are well cultivated: self-oriented, pride without any according, and even not able to work hard and fight for something. After several years of study and encourage by the stories, some college students are arrogant and fabricate some unrealistic dreams about future career. Thus, sometimes a company would rather hire the one who was with a lower degree, but willing to work hard.
However, students are not the only one who causes the unemployment of undergraduate students. Social factor is also involved, and its effects are tremendous.
The social unemployment, led by the current global economical crisis, propels the depressed market of students’ employment to even a worse situation. The number of people which was initially planned to be hired was less, what’s more, many companies which had fired many workers, enhance there standard of employing, the want student with a master degree or working experiences. Thus, undergraduate students are limited to an embarrass circumstance.
Additionally, discrimination of major, sex and universities aggravate the problem. As the impact of economic crisis, economical major students are difficult to find a job. And it is a common phenomenon that female students major in engineering are discriminated. The official reason declared by many companies is that they believe that male workers would be more skilled, divergent, and ambitious on work, also, thinking about the safety, it is extremely inconvenient when women are on a business trips. Of course, there are some jobs withholding a male discrimination, like the service and caring job. On the other hand, university discrimination is that companies are tend to hire students form famous universities, thus students form comparatively less famous universities have less opportunities to find a reasonable work.
Accordingly, to find a reasonable job in such a social environment is so difficult, especially for the college students who are unskilled, immature and with an unrealistic illusion of future work. But it doesn’t mean that the consequence is desperate. In order to develop a good career, students must firstly enhance the personal ability, that is learn the practical skills and social behavior, practice to express and recommend yourself, willing to take hard jobs and be responsible. Thus, no matter how difficult the circumstance is, job opportunities will be plentiful for you.
